Jefferson, CO - Colorado 'Zu II

Introduction

Colorado 'Zu II, organized by Corbin Cowan and Deanna has become an annual event in the Colorado Area. The event occurs near the end of summer while the days are still fairly warm at these elevations.

The Trails

Thursday
Night run over Mosquito Pass, I think.

Friday
Wheeler Lake.

Saturday
This was the big group-run for the event. We set out to challenge Red Cone. The day ended with a pot luck in the rain back at camp.

Sunday
The group split into two because of the delays on Red Cone. Also it gave a chance for some drivers to seek out a more difficult trail, while others had an easier time.

Monday
The hardcore guys set out for Holy Cross this day.

The Rigs

There were around 20 rigs, including 1st Gen Amigos, 2nd Gen Amigos, Rodeo/Passport, a couple of troopers and sundry. The most common vehicle there was the 2nd Gen Amigo.

Highlights

I missed the first 2 days because of work, but it seems that the Wheeler Lake run was really enjoyed by everyone. All the vehicles made it out to the lake on this difficult trail. Saturday was the big group run up Red Cone, and featured highlights of a few drivers (me for one) frantically on the radio saying "Wait for me"!!! The weather didn't cooperate with us and we drove most of the day in a drizzling rain. The trail was cut short just after going over Red Cone because of the rain. Sunday featured a great rock crawling trail with some very tight squeezes and a few bumper crunchers on the rocks. Chris Perosi gave me a chance to drive his rig and I was amazed at what some time, love (and a bit of money) could make an Amigo do. We had great lightning shows on Saturday and Sunday, and the group going up Mt. Bross said they had a severe storm on their trail.
